As a faithful conservative Roman Catholic, I have become very irritated at my fellow Catholics that continue to support politicians who openly violate the teachings of the church. As Catholics, there are five issues that are considered non-negotiable when considering candidates who are running for elected office. These issues are: 1. Abortion, 2. Euthanasia, 3. Fetal Stem Cell Research, 4. Human Cloning, and 5. Gay Marriage. If a candidate running for elected office at any level supports any one of these issues as part of their platform, then that candidate is disqualified for consideration!
The Catholics in name only (CINOs) on the left, constantly beat the tired drums of social justice as a way to justify their support of abortionist candidates in the Democrat Party. If these so called Catholics understood and believed in what their church teaches them, then their sad attempts at justification would end.
Additionally, the notion of social justice that leftist Catholics have is the wrong approach to aiding those that are less fortunate. Social justice should not be accomplished through the government. I argue that the social justice that is provided by the government and supported by liberal Catholics actually does more harm than good. Although well intentioned, this social justice is actually social dependency. This dependency on government is harmful to the individual recipient and society as a whole. Those who truly cannot physically provide for themselves should be helped by government. As a Christian and humane society we have an obligation to help those who cannot help themselves. However, true social justice means that we as individual Catholics have a moral obligation to provide the downtrodden help through our own efforts of volunteerism and charitable donations. Charitable groups, churches, and individuals can directly provide the aide to people who need it the most. Government has proven itself to be very inefficient at this task. The notion of Catholic social justice should focus on the charity that individuals can provide rather than the charity that government provides.
Catholic politicians and clergy who support and put forth the notion that social justice equals big government solutions, and that their support of abortion is justified because of this, are completely wrong and should be ex-communicated immediately!
